JACKSON, MICHIGAN

CONCLUSIONS

Available data and information indicate no apparent public health hazard connected with the Conrail-Jackson Yard under current conditions. Metals and other chemicals found in surface soil of the yard are not at concentrations that pose health hazards to workers and occasional visitors such as customers to businesses on the property. Chemical contamination exists in groundwater on the property, but no one is known to be using groundwater in the vicinity.

Two unrelated incidents of human exposure to contaminated groundwater near the property are being properly addressed by appropriate authorities.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Private wells still in use downgradient of the Conrail Jackson Yard Property should be surveyed to identify potential exposure points.

New environmental data or information concerning the future use of this property may indicate a need for future health consultations.
