ATSDR's Child Health Workgroup

Recommends Actions

The Child Health Workgroup was formed by ATSDR's Board of Scientific Counselors and charged with recommending policies and practices that emphasize child health. The workgroup is composed of nationally recognized experts in child health, toxicology, and environmental medicine, and chaired by Lorne K. Garrettson, M.D., Emory University School of Medicine , and director of the Georgia Poison Control Center in Atlanta.

The Child Health Workgroup examined available information (from ATSDR and other sources) on the impact of hazardous waste sites on children's health, identified key knowledge and program gaps, and proposed future actions. The workgroup provided feedback and guidance with respect to scientific and programmatic strategies to address the child health issues posed by exposures to toxic substances emitted from hazardous waste sites and emergency events.
