ATSDR to Hold Meetings in El Dorado Hills to Discuss Report on Naturally Occurring Asbestos - El Dorado Hills, California

Representatives from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), which released a health consultation for public comment in March, will hold informal open houses at the El Dorado Hills Fire Station 85, 1050 Wilson Blvd., on May 21 and May 22.
Friday, May 21
6 to 8 p.m.: Informal Open House
Saturday, May 22
12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Technical Briefing
1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Informal Open House
At the open house sessions, scientists will be available for conversations with residents. During the technical briefing, scientists will present a summary of the report’s methods and findings.
The health consultation found that a lifetime of breathing in naturally occurring asbestos in the El Dorado Hills area could increase the risk of disease and recommended actions by local authorities and residents to reduce exposure.
ATSDR is accepting comments on the health consultation until June 30, 2010. The report can be viewed at http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/hac/pha/publiccomments.asp. A copy of the health assessment is also available for review at the following locations:

Final Report on Oak Ridge High School Asbestos Exposures

A final report released by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) concludes that current exposures to naturally occurring amphibole asbestos from campus soil at Oak Ridge High School have been minimized by the mitigations conducted by the El Dorado Union High School District (EDUHSD) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. However, the potential exists for current or future exposures from unmitigated areas on campus or from other off-campus sources.
