Step 2.2 Comparing Exposure Doses to Health Guidelines

Evaluating Noncancer Effects: Exercise 1

After estimating the exposure dose of arsenic for a person gardening at Oak Estates, you compare the exposure dose to a health guideline.

You calculated the noncancer exposure dose as 0.000006 milligrams of chemical per kilogram of body weight per day.

The MRL is 0.003 milligrams of chemical per kilogram of body weight per day.

On the basis of this comparison, you know that the noncancer exposure dose is lower than the MRL and, therefore, noncancer health effects are unlikely to occur.
