Hanford Health Effects Subcommittee and ATSDR Annouce Meetings For January 25 - 26 in Kennewick

The Hanford Health Effects Subcommittee and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry today announced that there will be a meeting of the Subcommittee on January 25 -26 in Kennewick, Washington.  The meeting will take place on Thursday, January 25, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and on Friday, January 26, from 8:30 until 3:00 p.m. The location of the meeting is:

The meeting will feature updates on a number of topics of significance to the communities around Hanford, including the Hanford Community Health Project, the Individual Dose Assessment Final Report, and the NIOSH Worker Outreach Study, as well as updates from each of the Subcommittee's standing work groups.

In addition to the Hanford Health Effects Subcommittee meeting, there will be a special meeting on Thursday evening, January 25, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., also at the West Coast Tri-Cities Hotel. During the meeting, a panel of scientists and medical researchers will present information about radioactive and other hazardous material exposure and the illnesses reported in communities located near Department of Energy facilities. Members of the community will have the opportunity to discuss their health concerns about potential exposures to chemical and radioactive emissions related to the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Both meetings are open to the public.

The Hanford Health Effects Subcommittee was created in 1995 to provide federal agencies with advice regarding public health studies and activities relating to individuals who may have been exposed to radioactive and chemical emissions from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. The subcommittee is made up of individuals who represent the diverse viewpoints of the down winder community, the nuclear industry, various scientific disciplines, the tribal nations, Hanford workers, and concerned citizens.
