ATSDR releases findings and invites public comment on the Pacific Coast Pipeline Superfund Site in Fillmore, California

Filmore, California

Friday, June 19, 2015

ATLANTA, GA – ATSDR finds the levels of dust in Fillmore can sometimes pose a health risk to individuals with certain pre-existing health conditions, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) announced in a health consultation released today.

ATSDR also found it is unlikely that residents have come in contact with enough lead and PAHs from site soil and dust in the recent past (2011-2013) to cause health effects. The Agency further concluded that the clean-up and proposed redevelopment of the site protects the public from harmful contact with lead and PAHs in the soil.

The public is invited to attend ATSDR's public meeting on June 24, 2015 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at Mountain Vista Elementary School, 918 5th St, Fillmore, CA 93015, in the school multipurpose room. ATSDR will discuss the report and answer questions. Representatives from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will provide site updates.

The document and a summary fact sheet are available at:

Paper copies of the report can be viewed at the Fillmore Library and the Fillmore City Hall Clerk’s Office. ATSDR will accept written comments on the draft health consultation through August 31, 2015.

For more information, call 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636) and request information about the health consultation: Evaluation of Airborne Dust and Site Soils at the Pacific Coast Pipeline Superfund Site.

ATSDR, a federal public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, evaluates the potential for adverse human health effects of exposure to hazardous substances in the environment.
