ATSDR invites public to comment on the Blackwell Zinc Smelter report in Blackwell, Oklahoma

ATLANTA, GA - The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has released the public comment version of its report, “Blackwell Zinc Smelter Site”, Blackwell, Kay County, Oklahoma. ATSDR will accept comments from the public until November 5, 2018.

The public comment process gives the community the opportunity to review the report and provide their input. ATSDR’s responses to those comments will be included in the appendices of the final report.

The public health assessment report, in response to a request by a community member, evaluates whether exposure to lead and other heavy metals in contaminated soil, from the Blackwell Zinc Smelter site, could harm people’s health. The report also informs community members of the actions they can take to reduce their exposures to chemicals from the Blackwell Zinc Smelter site.
