Pease Study Promotion Kit for Community Members

The Portsmouth, NH community was concerned about PFAS in drinking water and asked for the Pease Study, but it doesn’t have enough participants. Spread the word to help us recruit more people so we can all better understand PFAS health effects.

Social Media Posts

Post the following messages and images from your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, plus any other online communities you belong to like Pinterest, Nextdoor, alumni networks and parenting groups. If you’ve participated in the Pease Study or plan to, consider making and posting a video about your experience or motivation.  Guidance is included below.

Post Tips:

  • Consider posting once a week.
  • Personalize the messages as you see fit. For example, add a greeting like “Hi, Portsmouth area friends.”
  • Encourage your network to share.
  • For Facebook, make sure the audience for your post is set to “public” so your network can share it.

4. Make Your Own Video

If you are planning to participate or have already participated in the Pease Study, make a quick video to tell your social media network why. A good length for your video is 15 seconds. You may want to make both a vertical version and a horizontal version to see what works best. A vertical format works best for Instagram and Facebook Stories.

Consider including these key messages:

  • Who in your family is planning to participate or has participated
  • Why you’re participating
  • Your experience with participation (safe? easy?)
  • Encourage others to participate and include the #PeaseStudy hashtag

Video Tips:

  • Avoid wearing white or patterns
  • Avoid wearing eyeglasses because of the reflection
  • Record your video in a well-lit area
  • Avoid having a window behind you
  • Get as close to your phone as possible without using the zoom feature
  • Keep your phone steady—leaning on something can help

Sample Video Scripts:

Sample Video Script 1: Planning to Participate

Hi, I’m (your name). I’ve (lived and/or worked on) the Tradeport for (number of years). The Pease Study aims to help us learn if PFAS may have harmed the health of people who drank contaminated water on the Tradeport, but it doesn’t have enough participants.

I plan to participate in the Pease Study because I care about finding out the levels of PFAS in my body and my (son’s/daughter’s/children’s) (body/bodies).

I hope you’ll consider participating, too. Call 603-846-6192 to sign up.

Sample Video Script 2: Participated

Hi, I’m (your name). I’ve (lived and/or worked on) the Tradeport for (number of years). Our community requested the Pease Study due to concerns about PFAS in contaminated Tradeport drinking water, but it doesn’t have enough participants.

I participated in the Pease Study because I care about learning more about the effects of PFAS on health. Not just for me, but for my children. The Pease Study collects information about the immune system, metabolism of fats, kidney function, thyroid disease, liver disease, blood sugar levels, and diabetes.

It was safe and easy to participate. I hope you’ll consider participating, too. Call 603-846-6192 to sign up.
