John T. Lewis Community Childhood Blood Lead Study

The John T. Lewis site (aka Anzon site) is located in the Kensington area of Philadelphia. Lead paint productions operations were conducted at the site from 1849 to 1996 by businesses using various names including Anzon Inc. and National Lead Company. The site was redeveloped in the late 1990s and early 2000s. A shopping center is now located on the former facility’s footprint.  In July 2014, several agencies conducted a health study to evaluate the association between lead in the environment and blood lead levels in children living in some neighborhoods in Philadelphia near the former John T. Lewis facility. We shared the preliminary results in 2015. Learn what we found in our final analyses and how you can get more information.
