CSPECE Guidance Manual

The Choose Safe Places for Early Care and Education (CSPECE) Guidance Manual is a resource made for you. This manual helps you keep children in your community safe and healthy in the environments where they grow, learn, and play. Early Care and Education (ECE) sites include child care centers, daycares, preschools, nursery schools, and Head Start facilities.

ATSDR created the CSPECE program to encourage thoughtful consideration about where to locate ECE programs. It gives towns, cities, and states a framework for practices that make sure ECE programs are located away from chemical hazards.

The manual was released in April 2017. ATSDR has since updated the resources section of the manual. The updated resources section can be found here. The original resources section can be found in the guidance manual.
