How does TCE enter the body?

TCE can enter your body by breathing air in and around your home which has been contaminated with TCE vapors from industrial sources, household products, and vapor intrusion. You can also breathe in TCE vapors during bathing, showering, or laundering clothes with contaminated household water.

TCE can enter your body by drinking contaminated water.

TCE can enter your body from skin contact with liquid products that contain TCE. For example, you will absorb some TCE if you don’t wear gloves while spot cleaning your carpet with a product that contains TCE. TCE enters the body through the skin from vapors in the air or from contaminated water while bathing, showering, or swimming. If you touch contaminated soil, only a small amount will be absorbed through the skin.
