Enter an address on the map Search tab, by selecting criteria in the Advanced Map Search tab or by clicking the center of a state
To view a map at the national level:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab

Click the drop down arrow (
) in the Contaminants box. (optional).

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data on national map.
To view a map at the regional level:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab
-
Click the empty box (
)
to the left of Check to use Regions. A checked box
(
)
appears.

Click the drop down arrow (
)
in the Federal Regions field.
- Select a Federal Region.
-
Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data in the selected Federal Region.
To view a map at the state level:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab
-
Click the drop down arrow (
)
in the States and Territories field.
- Select a state.
-
Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data in the selected state or territory.
- Select either the Map Search or the Advanced Map Search tab
- Click the center of the desired state or territory from the national map.
- The map automatically displays data in the selected state or territory.
To view a map at the county level:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab

Click the drop down arrow (
)
in the States and Territories field.
- Select a state.
- The county selection will automatically fill with county information.

Click the drop down button (
)
in the Counties field.
- Select a county.

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data in the selected county.
To view a map at the city level:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab

Click the empty radio button (
)
to the left of City. A radio button with a
dot (
)
appears.
- Type a full or partial City in the text box field.

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data for the criteria entered.
- The map automatically displays data, if any, in the selected city. (If there are no data in the selected city, the following message displays: ‘No Information was found for the City entered.’).
To view a map at the zip code level:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab

Click the empty radio button (

to the left of Zip Code. A radio button with a
dot (
)
appears.
- Type a full or partial Zip Code in the text box field.

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data for the criteria entered.
- The map automatically displays data, if any, in the selected Zip Code. (If there are data in the selected Zip Code, the following message displays: ‘No Information was found for the Zip Code entered.’).
To view a map by facility/site name:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab

Click the empty radio button (

to the left of Facility/Site Name. A radio button with a
dot (
)
appears.
- Type a full or partial Facility/Site name in the text box field.

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data for the criteria entered.
- The map automatically displays data, if any, for the selected name. (It there are no data for the selected name, the following message displays: ‘No Information was found for the Name entered.’).
To view a map by data source:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab

Click the drop down arrow (
) in the Data Sources field.
- Select a data source.

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data for the criteria entered.
To view a map by contaminant:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab
-
Click the drop down button (
)
in the right-hand drop down list field under the Contaminants label.
- Select a contaminant.

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data for the criteria entered.
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab
-
Click the drop down button (
)
in the Filter A-Z field.
- Select the first letter of the desired contaminant.
- The right-hand drop down list field under the Contaminants label is filtered for contaminants that begin with that letter.

Click the drop down button (

in the right-hand drop down list field under the Contaminants label.
- Select a contaminant.

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data for the criteria entered.
How do I view map features?
To view a map feature (e.g. Roads, Schools, U.S. Congressional Districts):

Click the empty box (
)
to the left of the desired feature. A checked box (
)
appears.

Click on the Add/remove Features button (
) to display or remove the map features selected.
Note: Map features display at different resolutions. You may need to zoom in or out on the map to view map features.
How do I find the definition for the symbols and colors on the map?
To view the map legend:
-
Click the Map Legend button (
)located on the upper right corner of the map.
-
The map legend automatically displays with the definitions for the symbols and
colors on the map.
Note: As map features are selected, they are added to the map legend. By default, the U.S. States, Country, and Earth Grid display on the map legend.
How do I manipulate the map?
To resize the map (Zoom In and Zoom Out):
Zoom In
-
Click the Zoom In button (
).
- The map automatically moves in for a closer view.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 to continue zooming in.

To pan the map (North, East, Northeast, West, Northwest, South, Southeast, and Southwest):

Click the desired navigational arrow from the map control (
) located in upper right corner of the map.
- The map automatically displays and moves in the selected direction.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 to continue panning.
Note: The map control can be hidden or opened by clicking the yellow area above the arrows.
To print the map:

Click the Print Map button (
).
- A new window opens displaying the current map.
-
Click the Print Current Map button (
).
- A Windows Print dialog box displays.
- Follow the instructions to print the map.
To save the map image:
-
Click the Print Map button (
).
- A new window opens displaying the current map.
- Right click on the map image.
- A pop-up menu displays.
- Click the Save Picture As option.
- A Windows Save Picture dialog box displays.
- Follow the instructions to name and save the image.
How do I view data?
To view the data table:
- The data table is located directly below the map.

The data table displays site information automatically when the map is updated.
Note: You must select search criteria before data is displayed in the data table.
To view the Site Information Sheet:
- Click the name of the facility or site in the Name column on the data table.
- A new window opens displaying the Site Information Sheet.
- Click the facility or site symbol on the map.
-
The Site Information Sheet displays.
Note: If the facility or site you selected is in a cluster of points, a pop-up box displays with all facilities/sites in that cluster. Click the desired Facility or Site name from the list and the Site Information Sheet displays.
How do I manipulate the data?
To sort the data table alphabetically:
- Click the Name, City, County, State, or Zip Code column heading.
- The data sorts alphabetically from A to Z.
- Click the Name, City, County, State, or Zip Code column heading again.
- The data sorts alphabetically from Z to A.
To print the data table:

Click the Print/Export button (
).
- A new window opens displaying the current data table.

Select the Print Site Information Sheet button
(
).
- A Windows Print dialog box displays.
- Follow the instructions to print the Site Information Sheet.
To open the data table in MS Excel:
-
Click the Print/Export button (
).
- A new window opens displaying the current data table.

Select the Export to Excel button (
).
- A Windows File Download dialog box appears.
- Follow the instructions to open the data table in MS Excel.
To export the data table in MS Excel:

Click the Print/Export button (
).
- A new window opens displaying the current data table.

Select the Export to Excel button (
).
- A Windows File Download dialog box appears.
- Follow the instructions to export the data table to MS Excel.
How do I view Environmental Programs and Resources?
To view environmental programs (i.e. NCEH/ATSDR programs and external programs) associated with my region:
- Select the Advanced Map Search tab
- Select a Federal Region.

Click on the Create Map button (
) to display the data for the criteria entered.
- The Environmental Programs and Resources display for the selected Federal Region located to the right of the map.
- Click the plus sign [+] in View [+] under the desired heading. Click [-] in View [-] to collapse the section.
- The list expands and the environmental programs display.
- Click a Program link.
- The program Web site opens in another browser window.
To view environmental programs (i.e. NCEH/ATSDR programs and external programs) associated with my state or territory:

- Select a State or Territory.
