Cooperative Agreement Program

The Cooperative Agreement Program awards nearly $10 million annually to support about 100 environmental public health professionals in partner programs. The Cooperative Agreement Team provides technical and administrative oversight of the program. The program’s main objectives are to:

  • provide partners with the resources and technical assistance to assess and respond to site-specific issues involving human exposure to hazardous substances in the environment
  • to identify site-related exposure pathways; educate affected communities; and local health professionals about site contamination and potential health effects;
  • to identify and implement appropriate public health interventions

The Cooperative Agreement Program currently funds 25 partners, including state health departments. The Cooperative Agreement Program produces over 70% of the public health assessments and health consultations authored by ATSDR.
